This area is covered by the approved documents if the building regulations part B1 and the NHBC standards

Both state in the event of a fire there should be means of sounding alarm and means of escape

Essentially there are 3 means of escape from a building

1 by means of a protected staircase

2 emergency egress windows in the upper floors on two storey properties

3 fire cells… Meaning that each bedroom becomes a cell capable of protecting persons inside until the fire brigade arrived
