Is now the time to buy in Britain’s most creative county?

Somerset has recently shaken off its bumbling, rural reputation to ­become a hub for the arts and an unlikely magnet for hipsters. Galleries and artisan workshops now vie for space with farmers’ markets, and the area is attracting new residents, keen to own a slice of what is fast becoming Britain’s most creative county.

The trend may have started when Babington House, the high-end hotel which is part of the Soho House chain, opened in 1998 near the market town of Frome. Soon after, a number of celebrities including Pearl Lowe and Mariella Frostrup bought homes in the area.
